UK construction expansion rate eases

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS)/Markit construction purchasing managers’ index (PMI) has today revealed UK construction activity eased slightly in March. The PMI edged lower to 56.4 in March, from February’s 8-month high of 56.5 – albeit better than forecasts of 54.8. However, the index remains above the crucial 50 mark, which indicates expansion. The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and  HeidelbergCement’s director of Europe have opened a cement terminal in Supsa, west Georgia. Worried over surging cement prices, the Builders’ Association of India (BAI) today said it plans to set up its own cement plants to cater to the needs of their own projects. Akmenes Cementas (Akmene Cement), Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer, has signed a building contract worth LTL150m (EUR 43.5m) with Panevezio Statybos Trestas (PST), one of the country’s biggest construction companies, after more than six months of negotiations. KHD Humboldt Wedag International saw its 2010 revenue fall from €360m in the previous year to €287m due to the lower order intake during the 2009 economic crisis, however it booked a significant increase in new orders in 2010.
