Mozambique cement production to hit 4Mt by 2013

Pakistan cement dispatches down 7.86%

All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) said on Monday that the cement dispatches during July-March 2010/11 stood at 16.02Mt, a decline of 7.86 per cent compared with 17.38Mt during the corresponding period of last year.
 Cement units located in the north posted a 12.06 per cent decline in dispatches, while those in the south posted a gain of 17.41 during the period under review, the APCMA said in a statement.

US January shipments rise six per cent

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for January 2011 were 3.7Mt, according to recent data from the USGS. This was 6% higher than shipments in January 2010. The leading producing states (Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and Alabama, in descending order) shipped 53% of the January total. Construction of West China new line to begin soon

West China Cement plans to construct a new 4500tpd clinker line with a 7.5MW residual heat recovery system in Hetian district of Xinjiang province. Construction is scheduled to start in or around April 2011 and completion is scheduled for around June 2012. The total estimated capital investment cost of the proposed expansion is around CNY650m and will be funded by internal resources of the group.

Swiss 1Q cement shipments rise 21.2%

First quarter 2011 shipments in Switzerland rose by 21.2% per cent YoY to 1.01Mt. This sharp increase reflects strong levels of construction activity in the country, according to a statement from cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. More than half (50.5%) of deliveries were made by rail.

Property tax protest nets Holcim US$1.5m, USA

Three years’ worth of property tax protests paid off for Holcim’s cement plant in Pueblo, Colorado. The state Board of Assessment Appeals recently awarded the Penrose plant a US$1.5m refund. The refund will be paid by the five taxing entities which get revenue from Holcim’s property tax payments, Fremont County Commissioner Ed Norden said.

The Namibian organisation for commerce and industry is hoping to reach an amicable understanding with Namibian cement producer Ohorongo Cement on unfair trading practices. Indian producers sees March sales rise

Some of India’s leading cement producers have reported a rise in shipments for March 2011 however, the domestic industry is unlikely to beat growth figures registered in February. ACC’s shipments rose 12.4 per cent to 2.18Mt in March 2011 over March 2010. Production rose to 2.19Mt from 1.94Mt. Indonesian 1Q cement sales rise six per cent

Domestic sales in Indonesia rose six per cent in the first-quarter 2011 to 10.28Mt, up from 9.7Mt over the same period last year, the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) reported. The increase is attributed to relatively stable interest rates, according to Urip Timuryono, chairman of ASI.
