Vinacomin opens new plant in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam

Quan Trieu Cement Corp, an affiliate of the state-run Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) opened its cement plant in the northern province of Thai Nguyen March 23. The Quan Trieu cement plant has a capacity of 2000tpd of clinker or 820,000tpa of cement, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said Thursday. The Quan Trieu plant will help raise the company’s capacity to 3Mta.

Texas Industries 3Q loss narrows

Texas Industries Inc.’s (TXI) fiscal third-quarter loss narrowed as higher shipments of cement helped offset losses in the unit that sells ready-mix concrete. Ohorongo Cement has drawn criticism of “monopolistic tactics” and “unfair trade practices” towards indigenous Namibian businesspeople, barely two months after commissioning the cement plant at Otavi.

Dyckerhoff expects that the economic growth in its most important markets will accelerate in 2011, which will have a positive effect on cement consumption, CEO Wolfgang Bauer said. Thailand’s top industrial conglomerate Siam Cement Group (SCG) plans to triple its building material sales in Vietnam to about THB1bn (US$33,) by 2015.
