Atbara new line to be inaugurated, Sudan

President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omar Hassan Albashir will inaugurate the fourth line of Atbara Cement factory on 25 January 2011. Atbara Cement factory General Director, Uz Hussien Abduljabar , announced to Suna that all preparations for the opening of the factory has been completed , and that the factory’s capacity is 6000tpd.

Calls for railway line to reduce costs, Uganda

A railway line would boost cement production and lower the cost , Mr Hussein Mansi the Chairman of the Lafarge group’s local operations has said. 
The comments were made at the commissioning of the a US$120m new Hima Cement factory extension on 8 January. He said the cost of transportation and energy continue to push the price of local cement up.

Oman Cement 2010 net profit rises

Oman Cement Company’s (OCC) profit edged up to RO24.50m (US$63.6m) in 2010, from RO24.23m achieved in 2009, thanks to a RO7.34m government compensation for keeping cement prices low in the last two years. 

The Sultanate of Oman’s second largest cement producer said total revenue fell from RO71.92m to RO62.52m, while expenditure moved down to RO34.85m from RO44.56m during the period.

Boral: bottom line to benefit from rebuilding, Australia

Boral chief executive Mark Selway said he expected sales of building materials to increase in Queensland once reconstruction commenced. Macquarie Equities said that Queensland accounts for 28 per cent of Boral’s revenue. Other companies expected to benefit from reconstruction work include Brickworks, Adelaide Brighton and CSR. Indonesian sales exceed target

Cement sales in Indonesia totalled 40.7Mt in 2010, exceeding the 40Mt target set by the Indonesian Cement Association. Favourable macro economic indicators and stable bank interest rates contributed to strong sales in 2010, ASI chairman Urip Timuryono said. The Pakistan cement sector is likely to feel the heat of the soaring international prices of coal going forward, reports Business Dawn. Global coal prices continue to climb, already 34 per cent up since June last year. Ukraine production down 0.4% YoY

Cement production in Ukraine fell 0.4% last year compared with 2009, to 9.5Mt. Ukrcement Executive Director Petro Lopatyev forecasted earlier that Ukrainian cement factories will be able to produce 10Mt of cement in 2011, which will be 11% up on the forecast for 2010 (9Mt). He also admitted next year’s forecast might change after the adoption of the national budget for 2011 and the Tax Code.

South Africa: waiting for the upturn

South Africa has reported a decline in sales for full-year 2010 as a continued slowdown in the construction industry and low levels of residential sector activity hamper demand. According to figures by the Cement & Concrete Institute (C&CI), consumption in 2010 amounted to 10.87Mt, down 7.8% YoY from 11.78Mt in 2009, when it decreased 13%.

Reliance Industries to foray into cement sector

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries will foray into cement sector. The company signed an agreement to invest in a 5Mt cement project that would come up in Kutch district of Gujarat. 

An MoU was signed during the two-day Vibrant Gujarat summit which also saw the junior Ambani announcing large investments in the cement sector.
