Vinacomin affiliate puts plant into operation, Vietnam

Tan Quang Cement JSC, an affiliate of Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has put into operation its VND1.5trn (US$76.92m) cement plant in the northern province of Tuyen Quang on Jan 25. The plant, located in Trang Dang commune, has clinker capacity of 2500tpd, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said late Tuesday.

Uganda cement prices yet to stabilise

The retail prices of cement, which abruptly shot up in late last year, are not yet stable. The price rose from UGS23,000 to UGS26,500 per bag (US$10 to US$11.5) in December last year, but has not moved to the original status though steadily reducing. 

Dealers attribute the situation to the weakening of the shilling against the dollar among other market forces. The current price ranges between UGS23,500 and UGS24,500 per bag in some city centre and suburb outlets.

Raysut Cement’s fourth quarter profit fell 62 per cent on a sharp drop in sales, missing analysts expectations. Net profit for the Oman’s largest cement producer by market value dropped to OMR1.7m in the fourth quarter, according to Reuters calculations. It had profit of OMR4.5m in the prior-year period. Ghana is said to be losing substantial sums of customs revenues due to the practice of allowing imported bagged cement from neighbouring Nigeria, at unfair low taxes, claims senior executives from Ghacem the country’s leading cement producer. Foundation stone laid for new Hidalgo plant, Mexico

Mexican company Trituradora y Procesadora de Materiales Santa Anita has begun construction of a  600,000tpa cement plant in the state of Hidalgo. Governor Miguel Angel Osorio Chong of Hidalgo was present during a ceremony to mark the laying of a foundation stone. The new plant will be situated in Santiago de Anaya in the Mezquital Valley region of Hidalgo. The plant is expected to begin production in October 2012.

Indian companies may rise prices by INR10/bag

India’s cement companies may raise prices by INR10 per 50kg bag in the western part of the country, owing to a shortage of railway wagons, said a dealer Monday.
