Saudi Tabuk Cement books US$26.5m net profit

Saudi cement producer Tabuk Cement Company (TCC) said yesterday it booked a net profit of SAR99.5m (US$26.5m) for the nine months to September 2010, up from SAR 95.6m a year earlier. The earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 1.11, slightly up from SAR 1.06. The gross profit rose to SAR 107.6m, up 5.7% on the year, while the operating profit came in at SAR 96.5m, up 7.6%. Growth of the Dominican Republic cement sector

The executive director of the Dominican Association of Cement Companies (Adocem), Julissa Baez, highlighted the stability of the cement industry in the Dominican Republic. She stated that of the six producers of cement in the country are members of the Adocem, two of which are important concrete companies. East African Portland Cement (EAPC) is betting on its new coal-driven plant and the hedging of its yen-dominated loans to return to the profit zone after announcing a KES292m (US$3.62m) loss in the year ended June 2010. Aditya Birla September production up 4%, India

Production for the Aditya Birla Group company UltraTech Cement, for the period April to September 2010 rose by 3.99% at 18.63Mt against 17.92Mt  during April to September 2009.

 Dispatches rose by 4.18% at 18.61Mt in April to September 2010 compared to the 17.86Mt in the corresponding period last year. 

Cement production for the month of September 2010 is higher by 2.91% at 2.819Mt and dispatches, at 2.85Mt  by 2.71% over September 2009.

CIMERWA to receive AFDB loan, Rwanda

The African Development Bank (AFDB) has granted a US$30m loan to CIMERWA for expansion to increase capacity at a time when cement prices have been rocketing high, RNA reports. The financing approved Wednesday, will allow CIMERWA to construct a new 700,000tpa cement plant that will replace the existing 100,000 capacity plant. The total cast of the plant is US$60m – with more financing coming from other sources.

The Jovein Cement Factory officially came on stream in Khorasan Razavi province, Iran on Sunday. The factory has the capacity to produce 4000tpd of cement. The unit was implemented over the course of three years.

Anhui Conch Cement says Ping An Trust sells shares

Anhui Conch Cement Co. said Ping An Trust & Investment Co. sold 176.6 million shares of the cement company as of 8 October, according to a statement to Shanghai’s stock exchange. Ping An Trust’s stake in Anhui Conch was reduced to 6.54 per cent from 11.54 per cent, according to the statement. Ping An Trust doesn’t exclude the possibility of selling more shares in the next 12 months, according to the statement.

Ambuja Cements sees exports falling, India

Ambuja Cements Ltd, an Indian unit of Holcim expects its exports to fall by up to 25% this fiscal year, as it plans to sell more in the local market, a company executive said Friday. Ambuja Cements, the third largest cement maker in India by capacity, expects to export around 600,000-650,000t in 2010, down from around 800,000t in 2009.
