New cement venture for Oman?

Oman’s two cement producers – Raysut Cement Company (RCC) and Oman Cement Company (OCC) – with the support of a government-owned company, are planning to set up a joint venture (JV) cement company in the northern city of Al Duqm. 

 Senior officials of both cement companies are in discussion with an international consultant, who will conduct a feasibility study for the proposed venture, the Times of Oman reported.

Prosperity Minerals Holdings Limited reported a 31 per increase in revenue to US$849m for the year ended 31 March 2010 against US$647.7m a year earlier. EBITDA fell two per cent to US$43.5m and there was a 65% increase in operating profit to US$35.6m. Votorantim secures cement supplies for Ceará region

Until January 2011 Votorantim has guaranteed the unloading of 10 ships in Fortaleza, with at least 30,000t of cement imported from Vietnam, to complement the growing demand in Ceará.

Vietnam cement consumption falls 40%

Domestic cement consumption in Vietnam has dropped by up to 40 per cent in the first half of the year, reports Vietnam News. Industry experts attributed declining demand to the fact that firms had stockpiled huge amounts of cement in anticipation of price increases. Texas Industries announced Tuesday that it will close all four of its wet-process cement kilns in Midlothian permanently. The TXI plant in Midlothian, 25 miles southwest of Dallas, is part of the nation’s greatest concentration of cement plants. Argos to supply cement for Panama canal expansion

Cemento Panamá, a subsidiary of Colombia-based producer Cementos Argos, signed a contract with the consortium Grupo Unidos por el Canal for supplying cement and cementitious products to be used in the expansion of the Panama Canal.
