Vietnam: cement output touches 4.41Mt in June

Statistics from the Ministry of Construction showed that the cement producers in June 2010 have reached an output of 4.41Mt, raising the accumulative production volume in the first half of the year to 24.92Mt, fulfilling 49.8 per cent of the year plan. Nevyansky Cementnik’s May production rises, Russia

In May CJSC Nevyansky Cementnik produced 113,071t up from the 20,494t sold in the same period in the previous year. Over the last five month the company steadily kept in line with the target on all the key operational parameters.   Clinker output in May totaled 86,017t (which is on target). Kavkazcement ahead of planned production targets

CJSC Kavkazcement has demonstrated a high performance in all industrial and public fields which set the scene for its leadership position among Eurocement’s production units in 2010.    Its May performance recorded 182, 245t of clinker which is 15.2 % up from same period of the last year, 270,100t of cement which is 16.4 % up from in the same period of the last year and 280,411t of finished products shipped to consumers which is 19.7 % up on May 2009.  

Dust plumes billowing from Ash Grove plant, USA

Large plumes of dust were spotted coming from the southern most tower of Ash Grove Cement’s Seattle plant. The dust appeared to be coming from the top south eastern edge of one of three towers. There was no fire, but thick smoke billowed from the plant. The company would not confirm what the explosion but the Seattle Fire Department said the cement company was dealing with it internally.

Siam Cement plans to expand cement interests abroad

Siam Cement, Thailand’s third- biggest company by market value, said the start up of a new US$1.2bn petrochemical plant will help it maintain profit growth this year.   “With the new cracker, we triple the size of high-margin petrochemical products,” Siam Cement President Kan Trakulhoon said in Bangkok. Marquesado quarry project given green light, Spain

Authorities in Andalusia, Spain, have given the go-ahead for the use of a quarry to supply raw materials for a cement works being built by Cementos del Marquesado.
 
The quarry is located on 93ha of public forest in the municipality of Valle de Zalabí. As a result, this decision in favour of the quarry is conditional to the restoration of the area’s forested character after the conclusion of the extraction work, as required by an environmental impact statement.

Fire at Finnsementti works, Finland

Finnsementti’s plant in Lappeenranta is experiencing power outages following a fire which caused damage to wiring and structures.   Electricity was partially installed on Thursday afternoon and the two mills at the plant are expected to start production in a few days.

India Cement Limited (ICL), a cement company operating in Tamilnadu is planning to set up a 48 MW coal based CPP at Narnamalpuram village, in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. The proposed CPP will be set up over an area of 10.99 acres. It will have a circulating-fluidised-bed-combustion boiler unit of 48 MW capacity, to be fuelled with coal.

Holcim expects Mindanao cement demand to fall, Philippines
