Secil receives ok for co-incineration at Setabul

Secil’s Outão cement factory in Setúbal, Portugal may continue to co-incinerate hazardous waste, as it has done since 2009 without interruption. 
Despite appeals by Castanheira Barros, counsel for the municipalities of Setúbal, Palmela and Sesimbra, the courts vindicated the company and the Ministry of Environment. The mayors now considering the submission of further appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court.

Saudi Tabuk Cement boosts net profit

Saudi cement producer Tabuk Cement Company (TCC) said yesterday it booked a net profit of SAR75.7m (US$20.2m) for the first half of 2010, up from SAR71.3m a year earlier.   The earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 0.38, slightly up from SAR 0.37.   The gross profit rose to SAR79.8m, up 9.5% on the year, while the operating profit came in at SAR72.7m, up 11.7%.   The improvement was attributed to a combination of higher sales and lower expenses, the company said without giving exact figures....

Job losses at Boral, Australia

Boral, has announced it will cut 200 jobs nationally over the next six months.   The building and construction materials supplier employs almost 600 people at its offices in Greystanes.   The Greystanes House site has operations in cement, construction materials and functions like IT.   The job cuts were among the results of a review of Boral which Mr Selway undertook after he became chief executive earlier this year.   Boral will undergo a restructure that includes reducing from seven divis...

Lafarge gets US$3m for refurbishment, Zimbabwe

Lafarge’s operations in Zimbabwe have reportedly received US$3m from its parent company, the Lafarge Group, for refurbishment of plant and machinery.
