Egypt will not reissue El Wadi Cement’s licence: IDA

Egypt’s El Wadi Cement will not be reissued a cement licence after the country’s Industrial Development Authority (IDA) said it wanted to open up the region’s booming construction sector to further competition. Prism Cement acquires remaining stake in MBF

Prism Cement on Monday said it has acquired the remaining 50 per cent stake in Milano Bathroom Fittings for an undisclosed sum. "Post acquisition, Milano Bathroom Fittings (MBF) becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prism Cement and will continue to be managed through H and R Johnson (India) division," it said in a release. H and R Johnson (India), the tiles division of Prism Cement, had acquired a 50 per cent stake in MBF in 2006. MBF has a manufacturing plant at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh.

Hercules Cement Co. strike ends. USA

A two-week strike at Hercules Cement Co. ended yesterday as 82 employees returned to their jobs with a new contract. Plant manager Richard Zimmel said the cement maker in Stockertown and Teamsters Local 773 agreed to a new, four-year contract Saturday.

Mangalam commissions wind turbines, India

Mangalam Cement has commissioned six 1.25MW wind turbines (total capacity 7.5MW) at Jaisalmer. In March this year, the company had awarded INR39 crore worth of orders for the installation of the six facilities to leading wind turbine maker, Suzlon Energy.

China: MIIT cracks down on outdated production capacities

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will temporarily suspend the granting of  approvals for projects in regions where outdated production methods are not made obsolete in a timely manner, reports China Securities Journal, citing Miao Wei, vice governor of the MIIT. The US$108m Hima cement plant in western Uganda will be complete and commissioned in October, according to David Njoroge, general manager of Hima Cement. Construction works on the new Hima Cement Rwenzori plant, which is expected to increase capacity from 350,000t to 850,000t is nearing completion. Nesher Israel Cement Industries Ltd., which operates a power plant at its Ramle facility, is in talks to sell surplus electricity to Israel Electric Corporation (IEC).
