Lafarge Retznei plant celebrates 100th anniversary

Lafarge Perlmooser’s Retznei site, situated in the Leibnitz district of Austria, has celebrated its 100th anniversary.   During its anniversary celebrations Lafarge Austria manager Thomas Spannagl said the plant was "one of the best in the group."   The Retznei works has 90 employees and has a turnover of around EUR150m. The plant exports products primarily to Syria but smaller quantities are also delivered to Slovenia.

Bermuda businessman criticises cement silo bidding process

The President of Island Cement Ltd. says the bidding process on the Dockyard Cement Silos is not open and fair — with tight deadlines aimed at discouraging new bidders.   According to Myron Piper, contractors such as himself, have been given less than a month to meet the conditions of the Wedco Board RFP.   Though companies are finally getting the chance to bid on the silos, the "unrealistic deadlines" mean that only current owner Dennis Correia or those with prior knowledge of the RFP cond...

Siam Cement: sales volumes continue to rise

Siam Cement PCL said Wednesday its sales volume during April and May rose on year despite political unrest in the Thai capital.   "The demand in the region was fairly good whether it be cement, construction material or paper products," said President and Chief Executive Kan Trakulhoon.   But he added that Thailand’s serious drought problem may affect demand among people working in the agricultural sector.  

Hubei Yadong to acquire stake in Wuhan Xinlingyun Cement

Asia Cement (China) Holdings Corp., through its non wholly-owned subsidiary Hubei Yadong Cement Co., Ltd., has entered into acquisition agreement to acquire a 70% stake in Wuhan Xinlingyun Cement Co., Ltd. from Cheng Zhi Qiang and Dai Ming Gang.   Both Hubei Yadong and Wuhan Xinlingyun Cement are engaged in the manufacture and sale of cement, concrete and related products in China.

Holcim ready to build factory in Tuban, Indonesia

Murli Industries denies reports of sale, India

Nagpur-based diversified company Murli Industries today clarified media reports stating the company may sell its cement unit in Chandrapur.   According to local media reports one of its top officials stated that the company is seeking a buyer for its 3Mt cement plant in Maharashtra and had appointed Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors to find a buyer. CFC gets nod to raise capital, Vietnam

State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) yesterday signed to approve Cement Finance Joint Stock Co (CFC) to increase its charter capital from VND300bn to VND610bn through issuing 30 million shares to the existing shareholders (at ratio 1:1) and another one million shares to employees.

 The issue time is within Q2 of 2010.

This year the finance company plans to raise capital to one trillion dong by end Q4 and mobilise capital by offering shares to the public, domestic and foreign strategic investors. ...

Birla Corp lines up expansion, India

The Birla Corporation is to spend INR2400 crore over the next couple of years to ramp up its cement capacity to 13Mt. Of this, INR1100 crore is being invested in taking its capacity to 9Mt by next July.

 The company is also working on an additional 3Mt capacity at Satna and 1Mt capacity in Assam.

However, these projects will be taken up only after getting clearances for mining and environment, Birla Corp chairman Harsh V Lodha said on Wednesday.

Dangote Group invests in Ghana packaging plant

A subsidiary of Dangote Group, GreenView International Company Ltd, said it has invested over US$28m (about NGN420m) in a cement packaging plant in Ghana. Kwame Siriboe, managing director of the company, said the plant has a capacity of 1Mta. He said the investment was part of Dangote Group’s efforts to make cement affordable in West Africa.
