India cement companies facing pressures

Indian cement producers are facing the impact of overcapacity together with pricing pressures and higher input costs. Every year, cement prices soften during the monsoon as lower construction activity results in lower cement offtake. Gas supplies to affect Mahilyow region, Belarus

Cement manufacturers in the Mahilyow region of Belarus have acknowledged that the reduction of gas deliveries to Belarus would seriously affect their output. The Belarusian Cement Plant in Kastsyukovichy and PRUP Krychawtsementnashyfer in Krychaw accounts for up to 50 per cent of the production of cement in Belarus. Cemex, Rostec unite to build US$120m Durango roads

Cemex will build 10 new roads in Durango state’s La Laguna region, local paper El Economista reported. The roads span 327km in total, and construction of the first 27km has already begun. The project’s total cost is estimated at 1.5bn pesos (US$120mn). The initiative was awarded to Cemex via a public service provision (PPS) scheme, according to Cemex Mexico president Jaime Elizondo. BRC in talks for Brazilian investments

BRC Cimento started breaking ground at Rosario Oeste (Mato Grosso) with plans to set up a 2Mta cement plant, and also have to other similar units in the North and Southeast regions of Brazil. The group aims to achieve a sizeable capacity of 8Mta preferably via partnerships. The company has already engaged in negotiations with other local players such as CSN Cimento,  Votorantim, Camargo Correa and also with Mexican major Cemex.

Global majors in line for India’s Murli Industries – report

Lafarge, CRH and HeidelbergCement are among the parties interested in acquiring Maharashtra cement company Murli Industries Ltd, the Business Standard reported on its website Wednesday, citing two sources with direct knowledge of the developments. Companies have submitted non-binding bids for the business and are conducting due diligence, the website reported. Motilal Oswal and Macquarie are thought to be advising on the sale, the website reported.

Romania’s 1Q cement output drops 30% YoY

Romania’s cement production dropped 29.9% in the first quarter, at 704,000t, from 1Mt in the same period a year ago, according to the cement companies’ association CIROM. Moreover, the local cement sales saw a 37% decline on the year in January to March, from 1.08Mt to 682,300t. Romania did not export any cement or clinker in the first quarters of 2010 and 2009. On the other hand, the imports of cement and clinker totalled 20,500t in January and February.

Shree lines up Rajasthan investments, India

Shree Cement will invest INR450 crore this year to set up clinker and grinding units in Rajasthan, said a senior company executive. "We will fund these projects by internal accruals," said managing director HM Bangur. "We expect a surge in demand early next year by when these units will be functional." China Resources Cement to acquire assets from Universal

China Resources Cement Holdings Ltd has inked a framework agreement with Universal Cement Corp to acquire its six affiliate cement companies for a total of HK$820m. 

 After the purchases, the Hong Kong-listed firm will own a clinker production line, three cement lines and two concrete lines, which are all located in Huizhou, Guangdong Province and are designed to produce 992,000t of clinker, 3.45Mt of cement and 1.2Mm3 of concrete per year.
