The sale of the 80.6 per cent stake in Holcim Indonesia to Semen Indonesia, formerly known as Semen Gresik, has been completed, taking Semen Indonesia’s share from 35.7 per cent of the national capacity to 49.5 per cent. Sinoma International, which merged with China National Building Materials (CNBM) last year, has been given the go-ahead to construct a US$1bn cement plant in Tanga. The Tanzanian Investment Centre granted permits to Sinoma, and its subsidiary Hengya Cement Co Ltd, for both the cement plant and a 1.2GW power station. Ivorian cement output up to 2.5Mt in 2017

Cement production in Côte d’Ivoire has increased from 2.5Mt in 2015 to 3.5Mt in 2017, according to Abidjan.net. In addition, with an XOF73bn (US$127.5m) investment into new cement plants and upgrading old facility as well as growing demand due to major public works projects, cement producers have lifted their capacity to 7.2Mta in 2017. Furthermore, with the commissioning of an additional seven units expected in 2019, cement capacity is set to rise to 9.4Mta by the end of this year.

Tajikistan exports US$65.4m of cement in 2018

Tajikistan exported 1.14Mt of cement in 2018, representing a value of US$65.4m. In 2017 exports stood at 970,100t and had a value of US$49.5m.The country exports cement to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan. Meanwhile, preliminary work began on the construction of a cement plant in Kubodiyon district, Khatlon – set to become the largest in the country, according to Azer News.

The 39.9 per cent-owned LafargeHolcim associate Huaxin Cement is investing US$245m in a contract to build a new production line for Holcim Philippines at the latter’s Davao works. FANCESA finishes silo base at Cal’Orck’o plant

Bolivia’s FANCESA reported it finished constructing the base of the clinker silo at its new cement plant in Cal Orck’o. The base is 45m in diameter and 2m thick and will serve as the foundation of a 35m-high structure. The construction was carried out by the cement plant’s staff and Concretec and required 70h of labour.

India Cements to acquire Springway Mining

India Cements has entered into a share purchase agreement to acquire the entire shareholding of Springway Mining in a phased manner. On 3 December 2018 the company purchased the controlling stake of 51 per cent in the paid-up equity share capital of Springway Mining. The acquisition will support India Cements’ plans to set up a cement plant in Madhya Pradesh.

New Rudny plant to start export to Russia

A new US$100m cement plant was launched in Rudny, Kostanay region, Kazakhstan, to meet the requirements of the domestic cement industry as well as Russia’s southern regions, Kazakh media reported. NCN’s Malbaza plant to start production in December

After addressing some challenges, Nouvelle Cimenterie de Niger is expected to start operations at its Malbaza cement plant in Niger’s Tahoua region in December, according to the company’s officials. The 2000tpd integrated cement works is forecast to cover 80 per cent of Niger’s cement demand, allowing the country to significantly reduce cement imports. The facility provides employment for 347 people, including 276 Nigeriens.
