INC awards International Materials clinker supply contract

Paraguayan state-owned cement company Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has awarded International Materials the contract to provide 60,000t of clinker. International Materials is based in the US, but this clinker shipment will come from Spain. The contract was scheduled to be signed this week it is hoped that the first deliveries of between 10,000t and 35,000t each will arrive in the first half of December 2014.

According to the Federal Customs Service (FCS), Russia exported over 2Mt of cement worth US$155m in the first three quarters of 2014. Ukraine was the leader by shipments, with its share totalling 35 per cent. Kazakhstan's share reached 32 per cent and Belarus imported 21 per cent. Cemex reaches agreement regarding Alcanar, Spain

Cemex has reached an agreement with the Santi Vila authorities to keep running its Alcanar works in Tarragona, Spain. In return the Generalitat commits to dredge the port of Barcelona so large vessels can moor and as such, enable Cemex to export to new markets such as the US. Taiwan Cement announced a further rise in cement prices in China’s Guandong province due to the increasing demand in the domestic market. The price hike follows an earlier increase in August . Wärtsilä wins first bulk carrier order for its new engine

A new cement carrier being built at the Scheepswerf Ferus Smit yard in the Netherlands will feature a six-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF main engine, making it the first bulk carrier to adopt Wärtsilä’s multi-fuel capability. The ship has been ordered by JT Cement, a joint venture between Erik Thun AB of Sweden and KG Jebsen Cement of Norway. Iran to increase cement exports to Iraq

Iraq has agreed to increase the volume of cement exports from Iran, a senior trade official has said. "As of September 1, each (Iranian) company can export 15,000t of cement into the neighbouring country from Shalamcheh, Chazzabeh and Mehran border terminals," Jahanbakhsh Sanjabi Shirazi, the head of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce, told Fars News Agency, as quoted by Zawya news. The International Trade Administration Commission (Itac) is investigating claims that cement from Pakistan is allegedly being dumped in the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu). Saudi Arabia imported some 3.1Mt of cement in the past nine months valued at SAR750m, according to a financial report quoting data released by Customs Department. Indonesia accounted for the largest share of Vietnam’s exports over the first five months of this year, according to data from the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.
