Bangladesh: MI Cement eyes capacity expansion

MI Cement Factory has set its sights on organic expansion through the construction of new capacity including its own clinker manufacturing plant over the next five years. Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd (LSC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Building Technology & Ideas Ltd (BTI), one of the leading real estate companies of Bangladesh. Under the agreement, BTI will use Supercrete cement in all its construction projects. La Hien Cement JSC, a subsidiary of the Vietnam National Coal Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin),  is seeking new export markets in Asia and Africa, an executive of the company said. Bangladesh, Indonesia and Taiwan remained among the largest importers of Vietnamese clinker and cement in the first quarter of this year, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. Bangladesh accounted for the largest amount with 1.83Mt of cement worth US$70.13m, followed by Indonesia with 828,317t worth US$37.1m and Taiwan ranked third with 272,396t worth US$11.71m. Clinker, cement account for 42% of Vietnam's 1Q exports to Bangladesh

Clinker and cement remained Vietnam’s major exports to Bangladesh in the first quarter of this year with export revenue of US$70.1m despite a decline of 33.6 per cent from the same period of last year. The figure accounted for 42 per cent of the country’s total exports to Bangladesh in the period, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said on its website late Tuesday.

Bangladesh, Indonesia and Taiwan were the top importers of Vietnamese clinker and cement in the first two months of this year, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
