Cement dispatches in Peru increased eight per cent YoY to 0.97Mt in April 2024, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. Cement dispatches in Peru declined by eight per cent YoY to 0.897Mt in March 2024, reports the Peruvian cement association, ASOCEM. Of this total, 0.825Mt was dispatched by ASOCEM members. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico in February 2024 advanced 10.3 per cent to 7.59Mt when compared with February 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement demand in Argentina fell to 661,122t in April, representing a YoY drop of 35.7 per cent from 1,028,598t in April 2023 but up 4.2 per cent MoM from 634,342t in March 2024, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement production in Botswana is expected to increase by 20 per cent in preparation for new import restrictions being introduced by the country’s government from the strat of October. Italian cement output continues to expand, rising 10 per cent YoY in February 2024, according to the latest data from Italian concrete association, Federbeton. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the US and Puerto Rico amounted to 5.886Mt in the first month of 2024, down 14.3 per cent YoY from the 6.872Mt recorded in January 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Botswana to restrict cement imports

Botswana’s government plans to introduce new restrictions for the import of cement in 50kg bags and only allow 1000kg bags from 1 October 2024, according to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mmusi Kgafela. This then provides an opportunity to look for partners and participate in this wealth creating initiative,' he said. The ban on 50kg bags would enable wealth creation by re-packaging cement in different bag sizes.
