Peru’s construction, services propel surprising Dec GDP growth

Peru’s booming construction sector--along with strong growth in government and financial services--continue to propel the Andean nation’s gross domestic product, which expanded by a surprisingly robust 6.38 per cnet in December. During full-year 2009, Peru’s GDP expanded by 1.12 per cent, led by a 15.6 per cent increase in government services, while financial services increased 11.4 per cent and construction gained 6.1 per cent, the National Statistics Institute, or INEI, said Monday.

The Gujarat Government’s decision to put its mining policy on the fast track will give a new lease of life to eight cement companies that plan to add 22Mt of capacity.

Saudi Arabia’s approval of record capital spending in 2010 will stimulate the domestic economy and allow local cement companies to expand sales and cut swelling stock, the kingdom’s largest bank said yesterday.
