Azerbaijan’s key cement producer halved output against its decline in 2009

Garadagh Cement OJSC, the major cement producer in Azerbaijan, lowered manufacture of cement in 2009 against its original targets. China exported 1,12Mt of cement valued at US$51.413m in December 2009. The export in January-December reached 15.61Mt valued at US$687.193m, down 40.0 percent and 37.5 per cent respectively YoY.

Cement exports to top 1Mta

Vietnam hopes to export 1Mt of cement this year, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, general director of the Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), has said. After many years of shortage, there is a surplus now, he said. 
 
Therefore, it is essential to export some of it to develop the sector, he said. 
 
There are 97 cement plants in the country with a total capacity of 57.4Mt. 
 
A further 13, with a capacity of 11.7Mt, are expected to go on stream this year, he said, leaving a surplus of 2Mt.

Chinese BBMG clinches US$101.5m asset purchase deal

Chinese building materials manufacturer BBMG Corporation said on Tuesday it had sealed a CNY-693m (US$101.5m/€73.8m) deal to buy cement production assets from Hebei Yanzhao Cement. The output capacity of the acquired operations is 4000tpd of clinker and, as a result, BBMG will boost its cement clinker capacity by about 1.2Mta and expects to increase its market share in the cement sector. Martin Marietta’s aggregates volumes fall by 23%

Martin Marietta Materials achieved a total turnover of US$1,702.6m in 2009, a reduction of 19.6%. India Jan cement output, despatches up 15% on year

India’s domestic cement production grew 14.8% on year in January to 14.54Mt, the Cement Manufacturers’ Association said today.   Despatches also grew 14.8% on year to 14.53Mt, the association said. This is the highest growth in output and despatches in five months. Sequentially, production and despatches in January rose 3.6% and 1.9%, respectively.

Egypt’s El Wadi Cement has secured a US$328m loan which it will use to build its delayed factory as it looks to ultimately win back its revoked production licence and return to a booming construction sector.
