Holcim Chile temporarily closes plant

The Polpaico Group, controlled by Holcim, has suspended production at its Quilín plant on account of rationalization costs. The closure is temporary, and does not involve any dismissals, according to the company. In 2008, the Polpaico Group produced around1.47Mt.

Shiva Cement dispatches up by 36.3%

Shiva Cement today announced that the dispatch of cement and clinker was up by 36.3 per cent during the period April-Aug 2009 in comparison to the previous year period April-Aug 2008. Shiva Cement is a Rourkela-based cement company. It has its plants located at Kalunga and Sundargarh in Orissa. The company has a combined installed capacity of 177,000tpa.

Votorantim studying Porto de Acu plant

Logistics company LLX and Votorantim Cement have agreed to conduct feasibility studies for the deployment of cement plant in Port of Acu, which is being built in São João da Barra, north of Rio de Janeiro. In a statement, the companies show that the study also will consider the import of petcoke to supply Votorantim’s cement facilities, in addition to shipment of products related to the cement industry by Votorantim through the Port of Açu.

Dalmia expansion plans

Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd., an Indian maker of the construction material, may invest as much as US$1bn to expand capacity, spokesman R. Gurumoorthy said. Shree Cement Aug shipments up 30 per cent YoY

Cement maker Shree Cement Ltd said on Wednesday its August shipments rose 29.76 per cent to 689,000t, from 531,000t a year earlier. Total shipments during April-August period rose 32.18 per cent to 3.82Mt, up from 2.89Mt a year ago, it said in an e-mailed statement. The firm has a capacity to produce 8 Mt of cement annually at its plant in the northern state of Rajasthan.

Cherat Cement Company profit rises, Pakistan

Cherat Cement Company Limited (CHCC) announced Tuesday its financial results for the year ended June 30, 2009 (FY09), according to which, the company has announced a profit after tax of Rs159.28 million as compared to Rs10.35 million during the same period last year. Indian cement maker ACC Ltd said on Wednesday shipments in August rose 7.1 per cent from a year earlier to 1.65Mt. Holcim holds more than 46 per cent, said production rose to 1.63Mt from 1.52Mt a year ago.

BBMG steps up land purchases

BBMG is spending up to CNY2bn to buy land, mainly in Beijing, in the second half of the year. The cement and building materials manufacturer has stepped up the purchase of inexpensive sites for its own use, paying more than CNY1bn for 1.26Mm2 in the first half. India’s Aditya Birla Group said on Wednesday its cement shipments in August rose 32.2 per cent from a year earlier to 2.89Mt. Production rose 38.3 percent to 2.93Mt, the group said in a statement. The group’s cement business includes flagship Grasim Industries and unit UltraTech Cement with a combined production capacity of 42Mta.
