ABG to establish 6Mt cement plant by 2010

The ABG Group is to establish a 6Mt cement plant near Bhuj by 2010 and foray into power generation with a 100MW plant in Gujarat. "The cement plant is being set up near Bhuj at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore and will go on-stream by end of 2010," ABG Group Chief Financial Officer D Datar told PTI. USTDA has awarded a grant to Yalguun International, LLC to fund a feasibility study on the establishment of a dry process cement plant along Mongolia’s main rail line to support domestic production. Bamburi says H1 pretax profit jumps 55 per cent

Kenya’s biggest cement producer, Bamburi  reported a 55 per cent jump in first-half pretax profit to KES4.5bn (US$59m), as the economy recovered from last year’s violence. Turnover was up 42 per cent to KES16.2bn driven by strong domestic demand and exports to other African countries, the Lafarge subsidiary said on Monday. Hit by a weak monsoon, the growth in cement demand in August may have fallen to as low as nine per cent, according to the Cement Manufacturers’ Association (CMA). Saudi cement sales rose 33.4 percent in July with some producers reporting their highest-ever monthly sales, NCB Capital said on Sunday. The Saudi investment company said total sales stood at 3.45Mt for the month, compared to 2.66Mt for the same period last year. It said sales rose 4.7 per cent month-on-month.
