Cement demand in Vietnam falls 37% in January

Demand for cement in Vietnam in January 2020 saw a 37 per cent YoY decline to 2,879,347t, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Domestic sales by VICEM fell 43 per cent YoY to 903,383t while its associates saw a 36 per cent YoY drop to 756,964t. Belarusian Cement Co plans to increase exports to Poland

Belarusian Cement Co (BCC) opened a representative office in Poland earlier this year in anticipation of higher exports to central Europe. "Our company opened a representative office in Poland early this year due to increased demand for Belarusian cement in eastern and central Europe in 2019. This move has improved supply logistics. Peruvian cement consumption increases 2% in January 2020

Peru’s cement market expanded 2.1 per cent YoY to 946,000t in January 2020 from 927,000 in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In the prior 12 months (including January 2020) consumption rose by 4.7 per cent YoY to 11.728Mt. Chile's cement dispatches edge up 2% in 2019

Chilean cement dispatches fell by 8.3 per cent YoY to 338,720t in December 2019 from 369,291t in December 2018, according to the Chilean cement and construction chamber, ChCC. MoM there was a much more modest drop of 0.9 per cent. Deliveries in the full-year of 2019 edged up 2.2 per cent to 4,081,896t when compared with full-year volumes of 3,992,501t in 2018.

Cement consumption in Brazil slips 1% in January 2020

Cement sales in Brazil slipped 0.9 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in January 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Apparent cement consumption, which includes imports and domestic sales, totalled 4.5Mt, representing a 1.3 per cent decline when compared with January 2019. Spanish cement consumption declined 8.6 per cent in January 2020 to 1,035,484t when compared with the year-ago period. The latest fall represents the third-consecutive month of decreases, not seen since the last quarter of 2016, according to Oficemen. Global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions stopped growing at around 33Gt in 2019, despite the world economy expanding by 2.9 per cent, according to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) global CO 2 emission report. Brent oil is forecast to average US$62/bbl in 2020 on the back of voluntary (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE) and involuntary (Iran, Venezuela) declines in OPEC supply, according to a Bank of America (BofA) Global Research report.
