Police arrest Portland staff

Police in Blantyre last Friday arrested four Portland Cement Limited (Lafarge) workers for allegedly working in the country without permits and another one for alleged theft by servant and fraudulent false accounting. The five were released on bail the following day by the Blantyre High Court.  Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer Elizabeth Divala confirmed the arrests but said she did not have further details on the matter as she was still waiting for information from the Fiscal Police....

Trinidad Cement Limited, TCL, says it will await completion of the expansion of Caribbean Cement before deciding whether to take up an offer to expand operations to Haiti. Siam Cement, Thailand, plans to build a cement plant in Indonesia’s Banten region, Java, within the market catchment region of the capital Jakarta. Chairman of Uzstroimaterialy, Irkin Akramov, says that Uzbekistan plans in the next five years to build three cement plants.
