Magyar Cement Preparing Lawsuit Against Holcim, Hungary

Hungarian cement company Magyar Cement Kft Tuesday has reportedly said it is preparing a lawsuit against Switzerland’s Holcim Ltd. Magyar has claimed Holcim acted fraudulently when acquiring a 57% stake in the Hejocsaba cement plant, which was privatized in 1994.  Holcim wasn’t immediately available for comment. Last week, Holcim repudiated charges of misconduct in Hungary, saying a Hungarian court has supported the company’s role in the privatization. 

Martin Marietta reports accelerated price increases

Martin Marietta, the second largest US aggregates supplier, sold 139.7Mt (154.0mst) in the first nine months of 2005, an increase of 7.4%. Baltsem Decides Buy 0.37% of its shares, Ukraine

The Supervisory board of the Baltsem company (Balakliia, Kharkiv region), which is one of the three largest cement producers, at its October 25 meeting decided to buy 0.365% of shares from its shareholders.   The company disclosed this in the statement, the text of which Ukrainian News obtain. Cimpor sells Semapa stake

Portuguese cement company Cimpor Cimentos De Portugal said Monday it has sold its remaining 20 per cent stake in rival Semapa for EUR144m.  Cimpor said it sold the 23.7 million shares in an over-the-counter deal at a price of EUR6.07 a share.  The company didn’t identify the buyer, or buyers, of the Semapa stake, but earlier, on Monday, Credit Suisse First Boston Corp said it would issue a convertible bond based on Semapa shares it had bought from Cimpor.  CSFB said its notes are expected to ...

Semen Gresik to build new cement factory

Oskolcement and Belgorod Cement report

In January - September 2005 Oskolcement (the Belgorod region) made 2.3Mt of cement, having exceeded the figures posted in the same period 2004 by 0.9 per cent. Belgorod Cement made 1.45Mt of cement in Jan-Sept 2005 , an increase of 15.4 per cent from the figure posted in Jan-Sept 2004. Total product output of two Eurocement enterprises in the Belgorod region totaled about 3.8Mt, Eurocement group said.  

Rinker obtains permit for new line

Cement production to hit 10Mt this year

Colombia’s cement sales in the first nine months of the year were 34 per cent higher than in the same period of last year and the figures indicate that production will reach 10Mt this year, newspaper La República quoted cement institute ICPC director Carlos Alberto Ossa as saying.  Domestic cement consumption will be around 7.7M t in 2005, he said.  Added to export figures of some 2.5Mt, this will mean that production will be not far from 10Mt, which would be a record for the sector and a sig...
