Hetauda [south central Nepal], 28 October: The country’s first cement plant has been closed for the past month and because of the lack of raw materials needed to produce cement, the Hetauda Cement Industry has now closed down.  The industry is apparently bogged down in legal and bureaucratic procedures essential to purchase the vital raw materials and decided to close the plant.     

Semen Gresik almost doubles net profit

Higher sales and production have helped Indonesia’s largest cement producer, PT Semen Gresik (SG), to a 91 per cent increase within the first nine months of the year in its unaudited financial, reports the Jakarta Post. Japan cement shipments totalled 5.87Mt in August 2005, up 3.7 per cent year-on-year, the Japan Cement Association said on October 28, 2005.  The figure marked a year-on-year increase for the second consecutive month. Orascom moves into cement grinding in Spain

Orascom Construction Industries has established its first manufacturing presence in Europe by acquiring a controlling interest in Cementos La Parrilla.  An indirect 51 per cent stake in the company has cost the Egyptian-based group €20.7m. Cementos La Parrilla operates a grinding station with an annual capacity of 0.6Mt at an inland location near Valladolid, some 170km to the north-west of Madrid. Portland to build new mill

The East African Portland Cement will use its own money to finance the building of a Ksh800 million (US$10.9m) fifth clinker mill that will see its production capacity increase by nearly 100 per cent.  The company, which sells its products under the brand name Blue Triangle, will also pay for the acquisition of a 49 per cent stake in the Kigali Cement Company, Rwanda.  The Kigali buyout will cost East African Portland about Ksh150 million (US$2m), although the deal has yet to be sealed.  ...

Italian cement producer Colacem officially opened on October 26, 2005 its new production plant in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic.
