Saudi Cement Co to import 500,000t clinker

Saudi cement producer Saudi Cement Company (SCC) has signed an agreement to import 500,000t of clinker, used for cement production, local media reports. The move is aimed at increasing SCC’s supply to the local market in order to meet the increasing demand and curb the shortage of cement which started a few months ago, SCC’s board chairman, Waleed Ahmad al-Juffali, said. The first 62,000t under the agreement arrived at the King Abdul Aziz port in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, on July 3, 2005.

Hyundai Cement to shut down plant until September

South Korea’s Hyundai Cement Co said Saturday it was shutting down one of its two main plants until September to ease inventories and save production costs.  In a disclosure statement to the Financial Supervisory Service, the cement producer said it was closing down the Dangyang Plant to use up inventories, and plans to renew operation Sept. 22.  It said the temporary closure of Danyang plant that takes up about 32 per cent of total production won’t affect sales as it has enough inventory sup...

Bolivian cement producer Fancesa is due to sign US$18m worth of contracts to provide cement to major roadworks and other operations in Tarija and Potosíepartments, local daily Correo del Sur reported.  The Sucre-based Fancesa’s board recently negotiated the sale of US$14m worth of cement with national highways agency SNC to supply the PotosíCamargo-Tarija city highway paving project. Lafarge Romcim installs waste processor

Romanian cement producer Lafarge Romcim has installed a Euro 1.0m waste processor at its plant in Medgidia, southeastern Romania, it was reported on June 29, 2005.  The system has a capacity to treat between eight and 15t of solid waste an hour.  Lafarge Romcim has been certified by the local authorities to recycle 18 different types of waste, Lagarge’s general director Philippe Questiaux said.

A team of researchers at the University of Michigan , Ann Arbor , under engineering professor Victor Li , have come up with a concrete that is actually flexible.
