Brazil’s Camargo Correa group has not yet finalized its planned acquisition of Holdtotal, the holding company that controls Argentine cement giant Loma Negra, the cement company reported to the Buenos Aires stock exchange. Greece’s Heracles Q1 hit by sales fall

Japan cement shipments totalled 5.17Mt in May 2005, up 6.1 per cent year-on-year, the Japan Cement Association said on June 23, 2005.  The figure marked a year-on-year increase for the third straight month. The increase can be put down to the strong demand for cement, mainly in the Hokuriku area, central Japan. Cement firm seeks investor approval

  Philippines: Fortune Cement Corp. will seek stockholders’ approval for a planned merger with Continental Operating Corp. during the annual meeting on July 25.  In a letter to the stock exchange, Fortune Cement said the application for Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other approvals will be filed soon after the stockholders’ approval is obtained next month.  "Subject to the approval of the SEC, Continental shall be deemed merged into Fortune pursuant to the Corporation Code...

 Eight Colombian cement companies will merge to create a business worth US$2.28bn, local press reported.  Cementos del Caribe will absorb seven other companies: Cementos del Valle, Cementos Paz del Rí, Cementos Rioclaro, Colclíker, Tolcemento, Cementos El Cairo and Cementos del Nare. Spanish cement maker Cemex Espana SA spent Euro 2.5m on the construction of a new plant for ecological production of ready-mix concrete in Paterna, eastern Spain, opened on June 22, 2005.  The plant is located on 7000 sq m, having an annual production capacity of 150,000 cu m of concrete. Icelandic cement importer Aalborg Portland Island hf has appointed Tomas Moller  managing director, it was reported on June 22, 2005.  Tomas Moller will succeed Bjarni O.
