Protesters block road over plans to bone meal, UK

Local residents in east Co Meath have pledged to blockade a cement plant because of plans to burn meat and bone meal (MBM) in its kilns.     Residents in the townland of Ballinabrackey near Kinnegad yesterday staged a go-slow protest along the road leading to the cement plant, delaying cement trucks going to and coming from the factory.  More than 100 motorists drove up and down outside the gates of the factory at 7.30am. Thailand’s Siam Cement buys more shares in National Petrochemical

Siam Cement (SCC) has increased its stake in National Petrochemical (NPC) to 35 per cent, a report in Krungthep Turakij said.     Since the beginning of the year SCC has bought additional NPC shares several times so now it holds 35.03 per cent, up from 24.97 per cent last year. Congress approves US$196m cement plant

Venezuela’s national assembly has approved plans for the construction of a cement plant by government holding company Corporació Venezolana de Guayana (CVG) and Iranian firm Edhasse Sanat, local newspaper El Universal reported.  Total investment in the plant could top US$196m.  The plant will have the capacity to produce 1Mta of Portland cement and will supply the government’s public housing construction projects in the country, according to the report.  Construction will consist...

Peru cement sales on the local market increased by 8.4 per cent YoY in May 2005 to 329,149t, the local association of cement makers Asocem said. An increase of Rs20 to Rs25 per bag in the price cement was recorded in the country making the total price of the bag Rs305 from Rs290. Yemeni Bajil cement factory 2004 revenue rises to US$24.5m

The Bajil cement plant in Yemen’s western Hodeidah posted a revenue of 4.71bn Yemeni riyals (US$24.5m) for 2004, up from 4.26bn riyals (US$22.11m) in 2003. PT Semen Gresik cement sales in May were up 9.7% at 1.42Mt from 1.29m a year earlier, with strong domestic sales offsetting a fall in exports, the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) reported.  Semen Gresik sold 1.23Mt at the local market in May, up 13.6% from 1.08Mt in May last year, the ASI report said.  Its cement exports, however, dropped 10 pct to 191,136t from 212,639.  Among its three operating units, PT Semen Tonasa reported a 20% decline in sales volume to 214,368 tons.  The...

India’s ACC has chalked out a capex plan of close to Rs 500 crore for the current fiscal, which would involve large-scale expansion in its grinding capacity.  The cement major, in which Holcim has 34.7 per cent stake, has decided to pump in around Rs 170 crore in its cement manufacturing facility at Lakheri in Rajasthan, where the capacity would be augmented from 0.6Mt to 1.5Mt.  Besides, the company is putting in around Rs 100 crore at the same facility for a 25 MW captive power unit.  ...
