The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) signed an agreement with the Pioneer Cement Limited (PCL) on Tuesday to help the latter in expanding its production capacity. Eurocement, a leading Russian cement producer, today declared a success its adoption in April of new sales terms intended to increase transparency, lower costs and eliminate non-essential intermediaries from the construction market. Cemex to shed 750 British jobs

Cemex is to cut 750 British jobs just three months after formally taking over RMC - the UK-based cement and rmc producer. The job losses represent about 10 per cent of RMC’s workforce and are mainly in middle management and IT. The UK losses are part of a wider cost-cutting programme by Cemex, which expects to shed about 2000 jobs in RMC across Europe. The company expects the restructuring to reduce costs by about US$360m by 2007.  

Lafarge starts construction on US$120m plant in Mexico

Lafarge has kicked off construction works on a new US$120m plant in northern Mexico’s Hidalgo state, local press reported.  The company is looking to launch operations at the 600,000tpa grey cement plant by the end of this year, according to Lafarge Mexico head Máimo Dolman.  This will be the company’s second plant in Mexico, where it currently operates a facility also located in Hidalgo state.  With the new factory, Lafarge hopes to grow by five per cent this year.  Lafarge currently pr...

Vinaconex officials and their partners push buttons to break the ground for the cement plant in Quang Ninh Province. The VND4.74 trillion (US$301.9m) Cam Pha Cement Plant, located in Cam Pha town, has an eventual design capacity of 2.3Mt of PCB40 cement and 1.89Mt of clinker per year. Cimpor Brasil, the Brazilian unit of Portugal’s cement producer Cimpor, is expected to register a 138 per cent YoY increase in its exports to African countries in 2005, it was reported on June 17, 2005.   The total exports of the company are projected to round 200,000 tonnes in 2005.
