Cimpor Brazil sees 2005 exports more than double

Cimpor Brasil, the Brazilian unit of Portugal’s cement maker Cimpor, is expected to more than double its exports in 2005, compared with the previous year, it was reported on June 16, 2005.  The company exported 84,000t of cement in 2004 and expects to export 200,000t in 2005. Iranian cement production capacity set to increase

According to “Tehran Times”, upon the completion of the construction of several new cement plants across the country, national cement output will rise by 4Mt. Peru’s May cement sales fall

Peru’s overall cement sales in May fell a tiny 0.02 per cent to 401,846t from the 401,945t sold in the same month a year before, the National Association of Cement Producers, or Asocem, said Wednesday.  In the first five months of the year, cement sales totaled 1,940,261t, a 3.9 per cent increase from the same period a year earlier. Cementos Lima led the sales in May, selling 212,480t of cement, which includes 72,697t for export, the association said. 

FCC completes Giant upgrade

Cementos Portland Valderrivas, the cement division of Spanish construction and services group FCC, has expanded its US activities with the inauguration of a new $132m line at its giant Cement operation in Harleyville, South Carolina. The company has three production facilities in the US.  The new plant replaces an existing, outdated facility while energy consumption has been reduced by about 50 per cent. Cementos Portland Valderrivas has invested $650m in the US market in the past six years.   

Philippines’ Fortune Cement to merge with Continental

Kim Eng Securities (Thailand) has been chosen to advise Thai Petrochemical Industry (TPI) on the sale of its 30-percent stake in cement maker TPI Polene, TPI’s debt administrator said.   Kim Eng will reveal details of the auction of the shares due in the last week of June, Trithip Sivakriskul, a member of TPI’s government-appointed management team, said. Cement consumption in Spain increased 5.49% YoY to 20.57Mt in the first five months of 2005, the Spanish Cement Makers Association (OFICEMEN) said.  In May 2005 alone, cement consumption rose 11.26% YoY to 4.57Mt.
