East India leads in regional cement consumption

Eastern India leads the growth in regional cement consumption for the period April 2004 to February 2005, registering a 15.6 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) increase to 18.1Mt. The Riyadh Cement Company (RCC) has signed an agreement with China’s Sinoma International for the construction of an SR1.035 billion cement plant which is to be commissioned within 26 months. Chinese engineering company Sinoma will construct a cement plant for Saudi Riyadh Cement Co which is currently being established, under a US$170m contract, to be signed on March 23, 2005 by Prince Feisal bin Abdul Majid, board chairman of Riyadh Cement Co.  The contract envisages the construction of the cement plant and all its facilities, with the exception of a power plant, which will supply electricity for the project. Prices of cement in the Vietnamese market are now up 1.8-2.4 per cent from early this year due to higher production cost and local demand, according to the country’ s Ministry of Trade on Thursday.  The higher prices are mainly due to rising prices of clinker and coal. Indonesia Feb domestic cement consumption

Domestic cement consumption reached 2.32Mt in  February, an increase of 13.7 per cent from a year ago with all markets reporting  a growth in consumption, according to a report by the Indonesian Cement  Association (ASI). The report said industry-wide cement exports during the month rose 145.4 per cent to 244,031 tons. Cement output grows 18 per cent in January

Bolivia’s overall cement production increased 18 per cent in January compared to the same period in 2004, government news agency ABI reported, citing national statistics office INE.  Bolivia attributes the majority of the increase to extra output from factories in the central departments of La Paz and Chuquisaca. Oman’s cement producer Raysut Cement Co plans to put the third production line, presently developed at its cement plant in Salalah, southern Oman, into trial operations in November 2005, it was reported on March 22, 2005.  Raysut Cement started works on the line, planned to have an annual capacity of 1Mt, in September 2004.  The line will raise Raysut Cement total annual output to over 2.2Mt, the company said.
