Cement manufacturer Holcim Hungaria Rt plans to invest HUF50bn in the building of a cement factory near Labatlan, central Hungary. he building of the cement factory might start in 2006 and is expected to be completed in 2009, Holcim Hungaria president Richard Skene said. Hima increases production, Uganda

Hima Cement’s output has increased from 20,000t annually in 1999 to 305,000 due to huge investments, the firm’s plant manager, John Mangi has said.  Peter Kaujju reports that Mangi said recently that they had increased output to meet the increasing demand of cement in the region.

The federal government has decided to wind-up the State Cement Corporation and transfer all its assets to the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), a company official said. Soboce starting US$15m Tarija expansion

Bolivia’s leading cement producer Soboce plans to spend US$15m to quadruple the capacity of its El Puente plant in Tarija department, Los Tiempos reported.   Soboce will execute the 30-month expansion effort in phases. The first phase entails the US$4m construction of a new cement mill capable of producing 250,000tpa. Cement sales in Portugal fell by 20.2 per cent year-on-year in October 2004, data from the Association of Portuguese Public Works Contractors (ANEOP) showed on November 29, 2004.  For January to October 2004, the sales of cement in the country registered a decrease of 2.6 per cent year-on-year, ANEOP added.   According to the association, the fall reflects the decreased demand on the market and some of the new measures for the public works sector, included in Portugal’s state budget for 2005....
