Birla group to set up concrete plants

Yemen to boost cement production

Yemen intends to increase cement production by a massive 300 per cent in the next three years, a move that will at last allow it to keep pace with internal demand.  Yemen Trade and Industry Minister Khaled Rajeh Sheikh said that projected cement production will total of 5.5Mt in 2007 up from 1.541Mt in 2003. The Brazilian Camargo Correa is negotiating the acquisition of Loma Negra - the largest cement manufacturer of Argentina. Chilean Cement company Cementos Polpaico, part of the Swiss group Holcim, has had a good year bearing in mind that through the third quarter its profits grew 25 per cent to 11.13 billion pesos (US$18.37m). Mexican Cementos Mexicanos SA (Cemex), the world’s third largest cement maker, plans to start operations in Russia, China or India, after the purchase of the British building materials producer RMC Group Plc, Cemex said. Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd says the cement grinding capacity of its Rawang plant will increase by 800,000tpa  after it transfers an idle grinding mill in Langkawi to the Rawang plant. Portuguese cement company Cimpor - Cimentos de Portugal might post a net profit of 122.6m euro ( US$157.3m) for the first nine months of 2004, down 17.7 per cent year-on-year, according to projections of Portuguese bank Millennium bcp reported on November 4, 2004.
