Cimpor To Buy 54% stake in Mat Atlantico

Cimpor-Cimentos de Portugal said Monday it has agreed to buy a 54 per cent stake in Spain’s Materiales del Atlantico for EUR4.55m.  In a statement, Cimpor said the transaction will be carried out by its Spanish unit Corporacion Noroeste SA, and is subject to approval by the Spanish competition authority.  Materiales del Atlantico operates in the Coruna-Galiza region, with a cement mill in Naron. It sells between 250,000t and 300,000t a year.

Spanish Goliat to invest

Spanish cement maker Goliat, a subsidiary of Italian sector company Italcementi, will invest Euro 80m ($102.2 mln) in the modernisation of its factory in Malaga, Andalusia region, southern Spain, it was reported on October 22, 2004.  The investments are aimed at reducing thermal power consumption by 14 per cent, cutting the anhydride emissions by 7.0 per cent, dust particle emissions by 68 per cent and greenhouse gas emissions by 15 per cent. India’s Somani Cement to build new plant

Somani Cement Company Ltd. is planning to set up a new 360,000tpa cement plant in India’s Gujarat state, the firm’s managing director said on Monday.  The company will invest about 1.5 billion rupees to build the plant in Mahuva in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district and has obtained a mining license for about 680 hectares of limestone fields, Bimlesh Mishra, Somani Cement’s managing director, told Reuters.  He said the company was in talks with a non-resident Indian group for raising funds for the...

Lipetskcement statistics

Russian cement producer Lipetskcement produced 1.3Mt of cement in Jan-Sept 2004, a 8.6 per cent rise against in the same period 2003. Packed cement output was around 185,000 tons (+12.7 per cent). In 2003 the plant made more than 1.5Mt of cement, up 3.2 per cent from 2002, Eurocement press service reported.

Holcim invests in La Cemento

The Ecuadorian Cement company La Cemento Nacional has changed its name to Holcim Ecuador. The Swiss group Holcim entered La Cemento in 1976 as a minority shareholder, but since October 5th the multinational, through its subsidiary in Ecuador, holds a 77 per cent stake in the company. Holcim has invested US$7.5m in the acquisition and set up of two machines, each one with capacity to pack 3600 sacks of cements per hour, or 3000t per day.

Cemex: Mexican margins down

For the first nine months of 2004, Cemex increased its operating profit at the EBITDA level by 19.1% to US$1,873.14m, with the trading profit (EBIT) pushing ahead by 25.7% to US$1,376.1m on a turnover 11.3% higher at US$5885.2m.
