Thailand: solid domestic consumption in September

Despite the fact that September is normally a weak month for cement sales, domestic cement demand rose 18.7 per cent YoY and 5 per cent MoM to 2.4Mt in September 2004, according to the Bank of Thailand. Trbovlje, 04 November (STA) - Cement maker Lafarge Cement Cementarna Trbovlje posted a net profit for 2003 of SIT 868m (EUR 3.6m) on sales of SIT 7.6bn (EUR 31.7m), up over 10 percent over the year before. If consumers have complaints over the recent hike in cement prices, they should take them to the Fair Trading Commission or Office of Public Counsel. Mardin Cimento reports 25trn Lira profits

Turkish cement, clinker and ready-mixed concrete producer Mardin Cimento reported a profit of 25 trln lira (US$17.12m/13.35m euro), up from 8.73 trln lira (US$5.98m/4.66m euro). Mardin Cimento, part of the cement division of Oyak, was included by U.S. Forbes business magazine in the 100 Best under a Billion list of companies in Europe and Asia Pacific.

Indonesia’s largest cement maker, PT Semen Gresik, said on Thursday it expected to report its audited consolidated results for 2002 and 2003 by the end of this month, after a key unit finishes its figures. The Concrete Products and Aggregate Co (CPAC), a ready-mixed concrete production unit of the Siam Cement Group, aims to increase its sales of customised products to 15 per cent of total revenues from 10 per cent currently, according to managing director Annop Tekajarin. The sale of the Argentinean cement major Loma Negra, being coordinated by JP Morgan, is not defined yet, and among the prospective buyers are Camargo Correa, Votorantim, and Cimpor, while Cemex and Lafarge eventually could be interested on it.
