The Director of Tampico Port, Rafael Meseguer Lima has just been dismissed from his position. Manuel Flores Guerra, an outsider from Tamaulipas State now occupies the position. Holcim said Wednesday that its third quarter net profit rose 31 per cent, propelled by strong demand and cost-cutting measures, and repeated its upbeat full-year outlook. Peru’s largest cement producer Cementos Lima has reported that lower sales contributed towards a 13.9 per cent fall in profits for the third quarter to September 30 compared to the same period last year, according to information filed with the country’s securities regulator (Conasev). Associated Cement Companies (ACC) has reported a 13.8per cent increase in cement despatches for October 2004 at 1.402Mt as compared to 1.232Mt in October 2003. Ghacem to utilise local limestone

Ghana Cement Works (GHACEM) is now using limestone from Yongwa in the Eastern Region to produce cement. This is a new cement standard approved by the Ghana Standards Board which allows the use of local limestone for cement production. The Russian cement industry continues to improve its perform and output data with latest figures for the first nine months of 2004 showing that 35.2Mt of cement was produced in the period, an increase of 12 per cent from the figure posted in January-September 2003. Eurocement remains the major cement maker, having produced about 6Mt of cement in the period.

TPIPL creditors approve restructuring plan

Creditors of TPI Polene Plc overwhelmingly approved changes to the company’s debt restructuring plan, the Bangkok Post reports.  The changes will allow TPIPL, the country’s third largest cement producer, to repay 5.1 billion baht in accrued interest through cash. The plan had previously called for the unpaid interest and fees to be converted into equity.
