The US Department of Commerce is extending the time limit for the final results of the administrative review of the antidumping duty order on gray portland cement and clinker from Mexico until December 20, 2004. Gujarat Ambuja plans captive agro-fuel based power plants

French banks fund equipment imports

GCC net profit falls 15%, Mexico

Mexican cement maker Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua reported a MXP196m (US$17mn) net profit in the third quarter this year, down 14.9% from 3Q03, the company reported. Operating profit grew 2.2% to 308mn pesos. In the quarter, net sales grew 7.5% to MXP1.15bn compared to the same quarter last year thanks to an 18.3% boost in US sales to MXP633m. Donafrance, a venture between Lafarge  and Vietnam’s Doan Duc Co., started building a cement grinding plant yesterday in Nhon Trach District of Dong Nai Province. Construction of the station in Phuoc Khanh Commune will cost around US$30m. In January-June, the Ivano-Frankivsktsement company, ranking among top five cement producers, increased cement production by 3.5% or 8,700t compared with the same period of 2003, to 258,600 tons. Lafarge said it would open a EUR50m ($63m) upgraded cement plant in the Serbian town of Beocin.
