Cement prices up Rs 20 per 50 kg bag in south

Domestic cement majors operating in the southern markets of India have increased the prices of 50 kg bag by Rs 20.  According to sources, the firms may go on a despatch holiday in the southern market to enforce this price hike. The state owned cement major INC (Industria Nacional del Cemento) in Paraguay has settled the payment of US$800,000 with French banks, reducing its debt to US$2.65m. Anhui Conch Cement Co. Ltd. one of China’s largest cement makers, has started a project of two cement production lines in Xuzhou City with Xuzhou Municipal Government of Jiangsu Province. Everest Industries Ltd, a subsidiary of Associated Cement Companies (ACC), is increasing its manufacturing capacity from 300,000tpa to 450,000tpa. Cemex is reportedly in dispute with Nicaragua’s state-owned cement maker Cementera Nacional (Canal) over the terms of a lease contract for a plant in Nicaragua, it was reported on March 30, 2004.  The lease for a period of 25 years was signed in 2001.  According to Canal, the contract terms included the plant’s liabilities, which totalled some US$3.0m to date.  Canal’s management threatened to undertake legal action against Cemex, but Cemex CEO, Mauricio Sanz Santamaria, said that he doubted ...

Jordan-based cement producer Arab White Cement Co (AWCC) posted a gross profit of 2.1 mln Jordanian dinars (US$3.0m) for 2003, down from 2.6 mln dinars (US$3.7m) for 2002, it was reported on March 31, 2004.  The company reported sales of 110,000t worth 7.7 mln dinars (US$10.9m) in 2003, compared to 112,000t for 7.9 mln dinars (US$11.2m) in 2002. UAE cement company Gulf Cement Gulf Cement, based in the UAE emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, produced a total of 1.4Mt of cement in 2003 and reported clinker output of some 1.23Mt for the year, it was reported on March 31, 2004.
