The net profit of Egyptian cement producer Sinai Cement may exceed 65m Egyptian pounds ($10.5m) in 2004, according to the estimates of French building materials supplier Vicat, which owns a 28.57 per cent stake in the company, Sinai Cement chairman Hassan Rateb said. Vietnam: work began on the Hung Vuong Cement Plant in the northern mid-land province of Phu Tho¹s Thanh Ba District on Sunday. Iskitimcement (Novosibirsk Region, Russia) produced 75,000t of cement over 2 months, 6.2 per cent down on year, the sources with the enterprise told AK&M news sources. Iskitimcement made 1.005 mln tons of cement in 2003, 1.54 fold up on year. Extensive delays in building cement plants could see Viet Nam continuing to rely on millions of tonnes of imported materials for the next few years, said Tong Van Nga, deputy minister of construction. After a strong surge in cement volumes since the beginning of the calendar year, the momentum seems to have slowed down with industry dispatches up by a modest five per cent in March 2004, as against a 10.8 per cent growth in the previous month. Egyptian cement drops in February

Egypt’s cement output dropped to 1.976Mt in February 2004 from 2.228Mt in the same month of 2003, the Egyptian state-run Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said in a report.  Local cement sales fell to 1.878Mt from 1.97Mt. Egypt’s cement output fell to 16.8Mt in the first seven months of the fiscal 2003/04, ending June 30, 2004, from about 17.1Mt in the corresponding period of 2002/03. Cement sales fell to 1.983Mt in January 2004 from 2.893Mt in January 2003.
