Cement demand in Argentina fell 16.3 per cent to 873,958t in January 2018, when compared with 1,043,732t in January 2017, according to the latest data from the Argentinian cement association, AFCP. Domestic cement sales in Brazil totalled 4.5Mt in January 2019, according to the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC). When compared with January 2018, the latest data reflect an advance of 4.2 per cent. In terms of days worked, domestic sales advanced 2.5 per cent MoM. Cement sales in Saudi Arabia declined by nine per cent in January 2019 when compared with sales in the previous year. Sales volumes of companies listed on the Tadawul fell 9.3 per cent YoY to 3.7Mt, according to a monthly report by Yamama Cement.  Cement stockpiles increased to 1.12Mt from 1.05Mt. Cement demand in Thailand is forecast to increase in the next few years after a recovery in the private construction sector, says Fitch Ratings. Indonesia’s cement consumption advanced by 4.8 per cent YoY to 69,565,129t in 2018 from 66,349,944t, according to the preliminary data of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). Cement sales in Morocco edged up to 1.17Mt in January 2019 from 1.11Mt in January 2017, according to the country’s cement association, APC. The rise in demand, which follows a market contraction of 3.7 per cent in 2018, has been welcomed with one operator commenting: “The recovery of the cement market is comforting. We hope that this upward trend will continue in the coming months.”
