Pakistan dispatched 33.88Mt of cement during the first 10 months (July-April) of the current fiscal, up by 6.21 per cent YoY, latest figures from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) show. During the period, domestic consumption rose by 10.74 per cent YoY to 29.871Mt while exports were down by 18.63 per cent to 4.01Mt during the 10-month period under review. Pakistan's first state-of-the-art coal, clinker and cement bulk terminal has commenced operations at Port Qasim, Karachi. According to a statement by Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBTL), bulk carrier African Finfoot became the inaugural vessel to call at the terminal, transporting 41,510t of coal for importer and exporter Awan Trading. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in February 2017 were about 6Mt, essentially unchanged from sales in February 2016, latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows. Ambuja Cement announced it has launched its composite cement, Ambuja Compocem, to the Indian markets of Bihar and Jharkhand. Construction market demand in the UK for mineral products was higher in the first three months of this year compared with the previous quarter, providing some evidence of continued impetus in construction activity at the start of the year, according to the Mineral Products Association (MPA).
