Prism Cement receives limestone mining lease

Prism Cement announced it has received a letter of intent from the government of Madhya Pradesh, India, for a cement-grade limestone mining lease. The lease if for mining in the Chulhi and Majhiyar villages in the Satna district of the central Indian state. To span a period of 50 years, the lease covers reserves of about 23.6Mt and applies to the cement producer’s plants Madhya Pradesh.

Polish cement demand to rise 2.5% in 2017

Cement production in Poland increased by two per cent in 2016, according to the Polish Association of Cement Producers. In 2017 cement demand is expected to grow by 2.5 per cent to 16.1Mt thanks to healthy housing and transport infrastructure construction markets, the association said. Cement prices in India have returned to levels prior to the government’s demonetisation move, analysts at ICRA Ratings have reported. “With the impact of demonetisation gradually subsiding, cement prices have reached the pre-demonetisation levels in April 2017 in most markets,” the Economic Times of India quoted Sabysachi Majumdar, senior vice-president and group head, ICRA Ratings as saying. Nepal plant project faces delays

Construction of the Honshu Shivam Cement Factory, a Nepal-China joint venture, is likely to be delayed as the government has been slow to build a road leading to the limestone quarry, the Kathmandu Post reports. Morocco’s Tekcim project online 2019?

First announced in 2012, Tekcim’s cement plant in El Jadida, Morocco, is expected to open in 2019 with work to begin in a few months’ time, reports La Tribune. To finance the project, Tekcim’s parent, SGTM Group, has approached the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the bank is expected to finalise the case in early summer. The cement plant represents an investment of MAD2.5bn (US$252m). The project includes a 500ha quarry.

Moroccan demand slips 0.7% YoY in March

Morocco’s cement demand fell 0.7 per cent YoY in March from 1.334Mt in March 2016 to 1.324Mt one year later. While the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dehab region saw sales soar by 27.7 per cent YoY to 8042t, advances were more modest in Fès-Meknès (+19.13 per cent to 125,085t) and Souss-Massa (+12.8 per cent to 127,584t). Cement producers in Peru have started to feel the impact of El Niño, according to Credicorp Capital. Between January and March, cement dispatches have fallen seven per cent. In February 2017, compared with January 2017, seasonally-adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 6.9 per cent in the euro area (EA19) and by 4.4 per cent in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
