European Union antitrust regulators on Friday scrapped a cartel investigation launched on 8 December 2010 against a number of cement producers with operations in Europe including Lafarge, Cemex and HeidelbergCement after failing to find evidence of a cartel. MPA: subdued 2Q sales, prospects positive

Sales volumes of aggregates and ready-mixed concrete were four per cent higher and asphalt 10 per cent higher in the second quarter of 2015 than in the same quarter of 2014, latest data from the MPA shows. PT Semen Indonesia and its subsidiary Semen Gresik are optimistic the domestic cement market will improve in 2016 despite tight competition. Colombia’s cement dispatches rose 10.2 per cent YoY in June to 1.0121Mt as building companies and contractors increased their demand by 25.8 per cent. Cement production reached 1.0292Mt, up 4.9 per cent when compared with June 2014. In the first half of 2015 the Colombian cement market expanded by 6.6 per cent YoY to 6.0674Mt. Philippines: cement sales rise 11% in 1H15

Cement sales rose steeply in the first six months of the year behind robust construction activities in the country, the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) said. CeMAP president, Ernesto Ordoñez, stated total cement sales rose 11.1 per cent to 11.91Mt in the first half of the year from 10.72Mt in the same period in 2014. Investment Board Nepal (IBN) has approved a foreign direct investment (FDI) proposal worth NPR36bn (US$352m) made by Hongshi Holding Group of China. Tunisia: CMG receives government approval for 1.2Mta plant

Ciment de la Méditerranée Gafsa SA (CMG) has received the approval of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines to construct a 1.2Mta greenfield plant. The works, with a clinker capacity of 1Mta, represents an investment of around US$220m. CMG is a joint venture between Ahmed Bouchamaoui International Group, Antonio Lopez Banos and the Ricardo Mella International Group.

The Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBTL) has issued 189.653m shares, or 20 per cent, stakes to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) at INR10 (US$0.09)/share for its bulk terminal to handle coal, clinker and cement under construction on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis at Port Qasim, near Karachi, Pakistan.
