Vietnam: cement plant project licence withdrawn

Authorities of the Quang Tri province in central Vietnam are to withdraw the investment licence of a cement plant project due to sluggish implementation. ASEC Minya Cement launches sulphate resistant cement

ASEC Minya Cement has launched its sulphate resistant cement (SRC) entitled ‘ASEC Al Mokawm.' The SRC type protects concrete from the effects of sulphate salts which are usually found in surrounding environments such as agricultural soil.  Use of the cement also results in a reduction of water permeability in the finished concrete product, and thereby a decrease in cracks. Iran sees 38.5% rise in exports in first 10 months

Iran exported 15.789Mt of cement and clinker in the first 10 months of the Iranian calendar, showing 38.5 per cent growth compared with the same period in the previous year, Ministry of Industries, Mines and Trade said. The ministry announced on Saturday that Iran's cement exports reached as high as 12,134,453t and clinker exports 3,655,280t in the past 10 months.

Pakistan association calls for intervention on BIS renewals

The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) chairman Mohammad Ali Tabba has urged the Indian high commissioner to intervene regarding the renewal of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) licences which he claims is impeding cement exports from Pakistan to India. US full-year shipments reach 82Mt – preliminary data

Total shipments of blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in 2013 including imports reached 82Mt, preliminary data from the USGS show. Domestic shipments were 75.624Mt while imports amounted to 6.383Mt. In December 2013, total shipments were 5.146Mt, comprising 4.756Mt of domestic deliveries and 390,188t of imports.

FLSmidth swings to full-year loss, Denmark

FLSmidth reported its first full-year net loss for over a decade and saw cement orders fall by 26 per cent despite a strong increase in the final quarter. The Denmark-based equipment supplier reported a net loss of DKK784m (US$143.9m) for last year compared with a net profit of DKK1.3bn in 2012. CIMAF to build plant in Congo

Morocco’s Ciment d’Afrique (CIMAF) plans to build a cement works in Kouilou, in the south of the Republic of Congo. The new plant, with undisclosed capacity, represents and investment of CFA20bn (US$42m) and is expected to generated around 1000 direct and indirect jobs. In addition, CIMAF and its parent company Addoha, intend to build thousands of social and affordable housing in the country.

The slowdown in Saudi Arabian cement sales continued in January 2014, falling short of analysts expectations. The early stages of work are underway at the site of a proposed 30,000t cement terminal in Timaru, New Zealand. Holcim New Zealand confirmed its plans to build an import facility at PrimePort Timaru in December.
