Venezuela plans to reduce imports of Peruvian and Brazilian cement

Venezuela’s President Evo Morales announced the intention to reduce the import of cement from Peru and Brazil by installing new plants and increasing domestic output. “I want us to expand the industry and reduce imports, but sometimes emergencies have necessitated imports. Russia: Lipetskcement output continues upward trend

Lipetskcement, part of Eurocement group, has continued its steady growth trend with clinker and cement output up by 46 and 13.7 per cent YoY, respectively in January 2014. In the first month of the year the company produced 105,500t of clinker and 37,500t of cement. Production of CEM II A/S and 32.5N and CEM I 32.5N increased by 28.5 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively. Bagged cement production rose by 40.3 per cent.

Pakistan prices sees further increases

Cement producers in Pakistan have increased prices by PKR15/bag in anticipation of improved construction activity before the monsoon season begins. Cement dealers said that the new retail price of Falcon Cement’s brand hovers between PKR530-535 while that of Lucky Cement is PKR520/50kg after the new hike.

Lafarge's profit drops in Europe and Latin America, but group net profit jumps

Lafarge's turnover declined by 3.9 per cent to EUR15,198m in 2013, having increased by 3.5 per cent in 2012. The EBITDA came down by 9.4 per cent to EUR3102m and the trading profit fell by 14 per cent to EUR2,075m as carbon credits dropped by 85.9 per cent from EUR99m to EUR14m. ACC to construct new kiln line, Saudi Arabia

UK: Flood-hit Ferriby works on target to resume production by end-Feb

Cemex is on target to resume production at its flood-hit South Ferriby works by the end of this month, however, challenges remain to meet the start-up schedule. Bamburi signs waste management partnership deal, Kenya

Kenya’s largest producer, Bamburi Cement, and Mombasa County government have entered into a KES4.8bn (US$55.7m) partnership to develop a solid waste management system. Bamburi will finance a feasibility study and provide equipment to boost the country’s waste management capabilities. Cemex closes 2013 with zero accidents in its Spanish works

Cemex celebrated the end of 2013 with a zero-accident rate in its 65 Spanish work sites. The company attributes the success to its “Zero Accident” campaign, started in 2007.
