Nepal's first Forbes billionaire, Binod Chaudhary, plans to set up a state-of-the-art cement plant in the high growth-market of Sri Lanka. New Uzbekistan cement plant on track for year-end commissioning

A new 0.45Mta cement plant being constructed by Russian investors in Uzbekistan is on track for commissioning by the end of this year. Russian company OOO IP Surhan Cementinvest is building the factory in the Kurkugan district of Surkhandarya oblast. The plant will have access to rail and a 10MW substation of 110/10kV. Spanish cement consumption falls by a quarter

Spanish cement consumption fell 25.5 per cent over the first four months of 2012, down to 3.472Mt, latest data from domestic association Oficemen shows. In April alone, demand was 139,578t less than April 2012 to just just 936,956t. Production for the January-April period was also down 25.9 per cent to 4.01Mt compared to 5.42Mt in the same period of 2012. April 2013 output was 19.3 per cent lower 1.07Mt compared to 1.32Mt in the same period of the month before.

India’s Competition Appellate Tribunal has said that cement companies must pay 10 per cent of the INR6307 crore penalty issued to them by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for cartel practices.
