Cementir hit by hard Nordic winter

Cementir's first-quarter turnover eased by 0.3 per cent to €194.7m and the EBITDA declined by 26.9 per cent to €9.2m as the cement major was hit by a hard Nordic winter weather. Siam Cement Group (SCG) of Thailand has signed an agreement with China-based Anhui Conch Design & Research Institute for the construction of a greenfield plant in West Java, Indonesia. Vicem sales up 14.8% in first four months, Vietnam

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) sold 6.94Mt of cement and clinker in the first four months of this year, rising by 14.8 per cent YoY. Of the total, 6.9Mt of cement and clinker was sold in the domestic market, up 21.7 per cent YoY, while 41,000t of cement was exported, a rise of nine per cent, the corporation said on its website late Wednesday. Stanbic Bank has closed a US$20.15m loan deal with Western Diamond Cement Ltd, part of the West African Cement SA (WACEM) Group, to build a cement production plant in the western region of Ghana. China first-quarter 2013 exports rise

China exported 2.85Mt of cement and cement clinker worth of US$160m in the first quarter of 2013, a YoY increase of 30.6 per cent and 20.8 per cent respectively, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Full year exports last year were expected to have reached 11.5Mt last year, up 8.5 per cent on the 10.6Mt in 2011. 

Holcim Philippines gets go-ahead for new plant

Holcim Philippines has received approval from its Swiss parent company to construct a US$550m cement plant in Bulacan, to support brisk private and public-sector investment. Mangalam Cement has halted operations of its Kiln Line 1 to upgrade its clinker manufacturing capacity, the company has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
