Venezuela’s Cemento Andino broke major records in production and delivery, according to reports by Cesar Villareal, general manager of the Trujillo group. Fiji Industries Ltd (FIL) has denied claims made by the special administrator of Suva City Council (SCC) of a cement shortage. Pakistan has recorded a rise in domestic cement sales in the first half of the current fiscal but export levels continue to remain under pressure. Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment has stepped in to mediate in a dispute over a supply surplus being created in the local industry. India-based cement producer Chettinad Cement Corporation has begun seeking shareholders approval to delist from the three Indian stock exchanges on which it trades.  The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Madras Stock Exchange (MSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Hoang Mai Cement (HOM) JSC targets a profit of VND86bn (US$4.11m) this year, according to the company’s chief accountant, Tran Minh Son. HOM is part of the Vicem group which  directs much of the largely state-run Vietnam cement industry. Southern Province signs contract for power plant expansion, Saudi Arabia

Southern Province Cement Co (SPCC) has signed a contract with Wartsilla for the expansion of the former’s power generating plant at the Tahama works. The contract was signed by HH Prince Abdullah bin Mosa’ad bin Abdulrahman Al-Saud, SPCC chairman, with Wartsilla to add four diesel units operating by heavy fuel with a total capacity of 32MW.

Gresik achieves record production in 2012

State-owned Indonesian cement producer PT  Semen Gresik achieved record production last year and targets further increases this year, according to a senior member of the company. Cement production rose 18 per cent in 2012 to 22.6Mt and revenue is expected to hit IDR19trn (US$2bn). “We hit a record in terms of production,” said the company’s president director Dwi Soetjipto in Gresik early this week. South Africa 9M12 sales rise 2.9%

South Africa cement sales for the first nine months of 2012 rose 2.9 per cent to 8.529Mt from 8.290Mt in the same period of 2011, latest data from the Cement & Concrete Institute (C&CI) shows. The moving annual total also rose 3.9 per cent to 11.473Mt from 11.038Mt in the corresponding period a year a go. However, 3Q12 sales were down 3.8 per cent to 2.976Mt compared to 3.092Mt in the 3Q11.

Mangalam Cement new projects set for 2013 completion

India-based producer Mangalam Cement, part of the BK Birla group, will complete its capacity expansion projects this year. The company is increasing clinker capacity from 1.5Mta to 2.2Mta and is also setting up a 1.25Mta grinding works at its existing plat at Morak, Rajasthan.
