Chile’s cement market contracts 16% in May

Cement dispatches in Chile declined by 15.8 per cent YoY to 313,101t in May 2022 when compared with the 371,947t dispatches in May 2021, according to CChC, the Chilean construction chamber. In the first five months of the year, deliveries fell by 6.8 per cent to 1,345,102t from 1,443,458t in the 5M21.

Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 24.5 per cent to 1,087,998t in May 2022 when compared with May 2021 when 874,188t was sold in the domestic market, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Wellington Terminal in New Zealand is getting a NZD$10m (US$6.45m) upgrade aimed at increasing its shipping capacity and reducing its CO 2   footprint. Cement deliveries in Morocco increased 7.1 per cent YoY to 945,706t in May 2022 from 882,785t in May 2021, according to Ipsos. The data relates to APC members Asment Temera, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc. However, in the year to date deliveries contracted by 3.1 per cent to 5,276,337t when compared with January-May 2021 when deliveries reached 5,446,117t.

Cement production in Italy increased by nine per cent in March 2022 when compared with the 2015 baseline index of 100, according to Federbeton, the country’s concrete association. Colonel Assimi Goïta, interim president and the current head of state for Mali, laid the foundation stone for Cimenterie Atlas, a new grinding plant at Dio Gare, Koulikoro region, Mali on 2 June 2022.
