PPC reports 11% increase in revenue in FY22

PPC has reported group revenue for the 12 months ended 31 March 2022 of ZAR9882m (US$621.9m), an increase of 11 per cent YoY. Excluding Zimbabwe, group revenue was up five per cent, while revenue in PPC Zimbabwe alone advanced by 34 per cent on the back of a 28 per cent upturn in volumes. Profit before tax from continuing operations came in at ZAR186m, compared to ZAR1765m in the year-ago period, due in part to PPC Zimbabwe incurring a loss before tax of ZAR67m, and impairments of ZAR38m. ...

Bagged cement price sees 22% rise in Côte d’Ivoire

The price of bagged cement in Niakara, Côte d’Ivoire, has increased by 22% to XOF110,000/t (US$177.53/t) from XOF90,000/t reported Agence Ivoirienne de Presse. "From now on, we are selling the 50kg bag of cement at XOF5500 against XOF4500, the usual price, so we make the tonne of cement at XOF110,000 and not at XOF90,000 as before," according to one manager of a hardware store in Niakara. He added that the suppliers attributed the price increase to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Cement production in Tajikistan drops 9% in Jan-May

In the January-May 2022 period cement production in Tajikistan has declined 8.6 per cent YoY to 1.6Mt from 1.8Mt. In 2021 the country produced more than 4.2Mt with approximately 1.5Mt exported to Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. At the start of June 2022 construction started of the 0.1Mta Fon-Cement cement plant in the Sughd region.

US-Puerto Rican Portland and blended cement market contracts 5% in April

Shipments of Portland and blended cement (including imports) in the USA and Puerto Rico declined by 5.3 per cent YoY to 9.2Mt in April 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).  The leading cement-consuming states – Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia – accounted for 41 per cent of total shipments. Schwenk Latvija has reported a 4.9 per cent YoY increase in turnover in 2021. The company's turnover reached EUR96.455m, while profit came in at EUR16.118m, up 31.9 per cent YoY, according to Firmas.lv. 2021 saw Schwenk Latvija sell more than 1Mt of cement, of which over 75 per cent was exported, mainly to Finland, Estona and Sweden, reports Baltic Business Daily.
