Polish cement sales forecast to decline

Cement sales in Poland are expected to decline to 19Mt in 2022 from 19.3Mt in 2021, according to the Polish cement association, SPC. However, the association predicts that sales could return to their upward trend in 2023, when it projects sales of 19.4Mt.

Following the price rise of imported coal, petcoke and crude oil due to the Russia-Ukraine war, cement prices in India are expected to increase by 6-13 per cent. Cuba’s government approves retail prices for cement

The Cuban government approved retail prices for white and grey cement  in bulk and 42.5kg bags. Grey cement costs CUP79 (US$3.24)/bag while the price for a tonne of bulk cement is CUP1500. White cement costs CUP183/bag while the price for bulk cement is at CUP4000/t. At present, production by the country's cement plants does not cover domestic demand.

Peruvian cement market expands 8% in March

Cement dispatches in Peru increased eight per cent YoY to 1.173Mt in March 2022, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In March 2021 dispatches were at a level of 1.089Mt. Domestic cement production by Asocem members advanced 11 per cent YoY to 1.121Mt in March 2022 when compared to 1.006Mt in March 2021. Cuban cement plants intend to take output over 1Mta in 2022

While cement plants in Cuba will produce more cement in 2022, this would remain insufficient to meet national cement demand, according to the Cuban Ministry of Construction. It is expected that the country will output more than 1Mt in 2022, up from 0.8Mt in the previous year. The country has currently five cent plants with a further two under construction in Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba. Cameroon prices rise as construction demand strengthens

Cement prices in Cameroon have risen in April to XAF6000-6600 (US$9.89-10.88)/50kg bag, past the November 2021 peak. The price rise is expected the help cement producers offset the impact of higher input costs. As of 22 March 2022, the average cement price rose by over 10 per cent MoM and by 11 per cent YoY, firming up as the cement sector enters a seasonally-strong period for construction activities. In addition, the government has increased its pace of awarding road construction projects.

Alabama hit by cement shortage

Officials with the Alabama Concrete Industries Association said Alabama saw a 14 per cent increase in the demand for concrete last year, but the current cement shortage might cause some projects to be delayed. Italy's cement production index (base year 2015) fell from 99 in December 2021 to 65 in January 2022, or by 14 per cent when compared with January 2021, according to Federbeton, the country’s concrete association. Puerto Rican cement sales down 7% in March

In March 2022 cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 6.5 per cent YoY to 1.47m bags of 94lb, or 62,677t, according to the country’s Institute of Statistics. Despite the fourth-consecutive monthly fall, sales are 24.5 per cent above the pre-pandemic level. Cement production in March 2022 slipped 0.7 per cent YoY to 32, 618t (765,000 bags). Output from the country’s cement factories has fallen for nine of the last 11 months.

Iranian cement market reaches 5.72Mt

Cement demand in Iran stood at 5.72Mt in March 2022, according to the Iranian Cement Association. The domestic output of 5.67Mt of cement and 6.33Mt of clinker was sufficient to supply the home market as well as meet overseas demand through exports of 0.312Mt of cement and 0.853Mt.
